Paradigm Change

Sometimes the best route is "back to the future."

Modern Agriculture fell prey to the ideas of industrialization following World War II. The discovery that petroleum based fertilizers would stimulate plant growth and the mechanization of labors that were previously all done by a local work force allowed consumers to enjoy a boom in fruits and vegetables.

The raising of meats and poultry on a mass scale kept prices lower than they would have been in the regular inflation cycles. However, these perceived benefits carried several hidden costs.

The food produced had far less nutrients. The taste was bland. The pollution costs to the water table and surrounding community health were ignored.

The processing done by major food corporations turned regular food into "Franken-food" that did not resemble its previous state and turned on consumers with a vengeance.

Researchers are only now discovering that the epidemics of heart disease and obesity are rooted in the low quality foods available in most mass food outlets.

We believe that a return to sustainable agriculture from local farmers passionate about their food and their farms can help to restore the health our ancestors enjoyed.

But the return will not be without a fight. The large corporations that process most of our food have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

They will attempt to use laws and regulations under the guise of protecting the public health to make sure that local farmers cannot compete with their industrial scale farming practices.

Most farmers lack the financial resources to fight this battle alone. They need your help.

We can provide a way for you to pool your resource with other concerned citizens.

The time to act is now.

Welcome to the Farm-to-Consumer Foundation!

Have you become increasingly concerned about the health of the food you consume?

Do you understand why the diet of the animals you eat is incredibly important for your health?

Do you know how to create the perfect environment for healthy crops?

Would you like to help relieve the hardships our farmers face after a government raid?

The Farm-to-Consumer Foundation was formed to help answer these questions and many more.  Our goals at the Farm-to-Consumer Foundation are:

  • to educate our farmers, our consumers and the general public about the health and welfare of our food.
  • To provide resources so that you can understand the hardships our farmers face with government over regulation.
  • To provide financial support for our farmers who have been directly affected by government interference.

As Henry Ford so eloquently said,
          Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”

We have come together, will you help us succeed?  We not only need your financial support, but we also need your talents too.  You, too, can make a difference!

Our Mission

The Farm-to-Consumer Foundation is a non-profit organization founded to protect the nation’s family farms. We do this through educational and charitable activities:

  • Educating consumers on how to obtain farm food directly from farmers;
  • Educating farmers on how to be free from harassment by local, state, and federal government interference with food production and on-farm processing;
  • Educating the general public about the importance of sustainable farming, healthy foods, and our rights to farm and obtain such foods.
  • Providing financial support to farmers who have been unfairly harmed by government harassment

Farmers and Consumers Should Be Free

We believe that farmers should be free to sell, and consumers free to buy, the healthy products of their farms, including meat, eggs, raw milk and raw milk products, fruits and vegetables, lacto-fermented foods and beverages, prepared foods, and bread and other baked goods. The government has no right to interfere in such direct sales between willing and interested adults.

Our goal is to nurture and protect family farms.  We envision healthy people buying health-giving foods.  We envision farmers raising food in ways that are good for the environment, the animals, and the people.  We envision a vibrant local economy based on the firm foundation of agriculture, food, and related businesses.  We envision a better world growing out of farmers’ and consumers’ choices.

FTCF is a sister organization to the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (www.FTCLDF.org), providing the educational services that complement the Fund’s work.

The FTCF has applied for 501(c)(3) status from the IRS.

Through the generosity of many donors, the Farm-to-Consumer Foundation is able to offer scholarships to farmers with specific needs. Please understand that, because of our limited funding base, we are not able to offer assistance with every financial need.

 If your farm has had a financial crisis due to government harassment, please send us an email to explain your circumstances.

Our scholarships are designed to help farmers who are committed to sustainable farming methods and who have demonstrable financial needs.

If the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) is made mandatory, anyone who owns even one horse, chicken, cow, pig, sheep, goat, or any other livestock or poultry, will have to:

• Register their premises with the state and federal government;

• Identify each animal, in most cases with electronic identification;

• Report “events” to a government-accessible database within 24 hours, including every dead or missing animal, private sales, and regional shows.
